With a rich history dating back to 1947, Sound Refrigeration & Air Conditioning is a true New York institution. From a single room to an entire Industrial building, we have the experience and the expertise to bring any cooling project to life.

Who We Are

 

A Rich 70+ Year History

Sound Refrigeration & Air Conditioning was established in New York, on September 13, 1947. Cosmos Marentis built the business by specializing in HVAC service and installations for the banking industry with special emphasis on computer rooms and trading floors. In 1990, Cosmos retired as President of Sound A/C and was succeeded by Steven Marentis/President, Robert Gulmi/Vice President of Construction, Richard Stankiewicz/Vice President of Service and John Stamm/Director of Operations.

Today we continue the trend of doing business with banking and financial institutions in addition to the entertainment, hospital, retail, telecommunications and other industries. In 2017, Steven Marentis retired as President and has been succeeded by Robert Gulmi, who will continue in the tradition of growing and expanding the company as we continue to innovate beyond our 70th anniversary.

We are authorized dealers for Liebert, Carrier, Trane and York equipment and our service mechanics are routinely updated on servicing information from these and other manufacturers. In addition, all apprentices are enrolled in the Local 638 four year Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Training Program.

Our office and field staff are vastly experienced in renovations, both Plan and Specification or Design and Install. We can accommodate projects ranging from one room to an entire building, encompassing all HVAC trades. Among our other HVAC specialties are Energy Management, LEED, refurbishment/replacement of existing systems, system design and troubleshooting and maintenance.

Industry-Leading Training & Support

We believe that educating and training our personnel is the key to staying ahead of our changing industry. All our project managers and superintendents are continually enrolled in technical industry seminars and NYU Continuing Education programs. Our mechanics are required to maintain not only current licenses but are routinely enrolled in courses and seminars to further enhance their working knowledge.

Design & Engineering Expertise

Our staff has extensive experience with layout and design of HVAC systems for commercial and industrial buildings. We have designed computer facilities, health care facilities, mechanical rooms, retail spaces, tenant alterations and conducted energy surveys. Our CAD & BIM drafting facility meets the needs of our changing industry and enables interface with architects and building management. Our goal is to provide the best possible engineered system, while striving to meet the needs of our clients while recognizing budget constraints.
